Every single registered domain has at least two Name Server records that show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you point your Internet domain to the servers of a specific web hosting provider. This way, you have got both your website and your emails handled by the exact same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), nevertheless, there are lots of other records, for instance A and MX. The first one reveals which server handles the website for a given domain address and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter reveals which server deals with the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an example, whenever you type a domain name in your Internet browser, your request is forwarded through the global DNS system to the provider whose NS records the domain address uses and from there you could be forwarded to the servers of another company in case you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain. Having different records for the website and the e-mails means you can have your site and your e-mails with 2 different providers if you wish.

Custom MX and A Records in Hosting

If you have a hosting account from our company and you want to point either your website or your emails to a different company, it's going to take you literally only 2 mouse clicks to do it. Our Hepsia CP comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and edit the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you choose to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the standard 2, it is not going to take more than a few mouse clicks either to add them. You can also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a certain MX record is going to have. The propagation of every record that you modify or create is not going to take more than a few hours and if necessary, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that indicates how long a record will stay active after it is changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

Accessing and modifying the A or MX records for any of your domain names or subdomains is incredibly easy if you purchase a semi-dedicated server plan from our company. The accounts are managed using our in-house built Hepsia Control Panel, which includes a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domains. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you can click on any of them to see both the A and the MX records. Editing any record is as easy as entering the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even if you have never dealt with such matters before, you simply won't encounter any problems if you wish to direct your site or e-mails to a different company while keeping the second service with our company. When needed, you may also create additional MX records and set a specific priority in accordance with the instructions of the new provider.
